Attorney Sam Segal Speaks in NYC
On Friday, May 5, 2023, attorney Sam Segal spoke on a panel at the American Bar Association’s joint Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section and Young Lawyers Division spring section conference in New York City. The panel was titled “Full Circle: The Art of Opening Statements and Closing Arguments” and included judge Nancy Ridgway from Atlantic County Criminal Court in Atlantic City, NJ; Tamara Tomomitsu of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP out of Toronto, ON; and moderators Qian Shen of Holland & Knight out of New York, NY and Dick Semerdjian of Schwartz Semerdjian Cauley & Evans LLP out of San Diego, CA.
The panel discussed the best practices for formulating opening and closing statements in personal injury cases, including ways to introduce the case to the jury and how to advocate for your client by telling their story effectively. Attorneys Segal and Tomomitsu performed a demonstration during the program using the recent Gwyneth Paltrow ski collision case as a fact pattern, much to the delight of the audience.
Attorney Segal is pleased to be able to volunteer his time talking about advocacy and discussing best practices with attorneys from both around the country and internationally and looks forward to continue doing so in the future.
